"Star Dream" is a game that has been a favourite of mine since my childhood, and even today, it remains just as addictive. However, I've noticed that certain aspects of the game aren't as clear as they could be, and I believe that improving the user interface will provide a more enriching and seamless experience for players. To achieve this, I have redesigned UI, background and characters to a modern style that better fits the current century.
UXUI Problems that I want to solve for the game Star Dream:
1. Not sure how much progress I have done
2. Not sure if I am in planning or freedom mode as the frames look very similar
3. Did not realize that there are other pages/data on notebook
4. Found difficulty on planning jobs as Im not sure how many days have left when I edited the schedule
5. Changes made on the schedule has always gone as I always forgot to click save afterwards.
6. The functionality/speciality (adding/deducting) of each dress/item is not clear
7. Not sure if the items can be put on the characters or being used up.
What I have done:
Original version vs New version Up: Planning mode (End of the week); Down: Freedom mode (During the week)
MAIN FRAME
1a. Redesign the layout of date display to make it more obvious and adding the info of days left.
1b. Redesign the background structure and adding the trophies display, so that player can have a better sense of their achievement
2. Add windows and change the colour tone on background to clearly show day or night-time. Daytime = Freedom Mode; Night-time = Planning Mode
Original version vs New version
PLANNING
3. Redesign the structure of the notebook with a more visible tabs on sides and in a more modern style, so player can feel more relatable.
4a. Always show how many days left after adding/removing the job on the right panel
4b. Make available days (Mon-Sun) and due date of the jobs on the left panel more obvious, so it’s easier to plan with multiple jobs
4c. Player is able to add or remove all the schedule of that specific job in shortcut
4d. Each categories of jobs should have its own colour, so it’s easier for player to identify and plan.
5. Once clicking on the schedule, all the menu buttons are disabled, so the player can focus on one action at one time, and wont forget to save to move on.
Original version vs New version
DRESS UP MODE
6a. When player is choosing the dress, the abilities’ bar will show how much has been added/deducted from the current status
6b. Separate the dress up and item mode, so that player can focus on one action at one time, and fully enjoy on changing the clothes
7. Show the full body of the character, so that player can see clearly on the full outlook of the dress set and immediately know if the items are being put on the character or used up as one-off.
